What is the difference between an essential oil and a scented oil?

Essential oils are natural aromatic products obtained from distilling raw plant materials.

Thanks to their aromatic molecules, essential oils have many uses (in healthcare, cooking, fragrances, added to cleaning products, etc.).

Essential oils can be used in many ways, such as:

  • In electric diffusers, which do not alter oils. Please note that not all essential oils can be diffused, and should not be used near young children, pregnant women, small pets, or people with allergies.
  • Directly on to the skin, essential oils are easily absorbed by tissues and pass into the blood stream. Please note that these must be mixed into a vegetable oil.

As for scented oils, they are concentrated synthetic fragrances used only for olfactory purposes. We recommend using scented oils in a scent burner. Fill the dish with water, add a few drops of oil, then plug your scent burner in if it is an electric model, or light a tea light. This will effectively spread the potency of the scented oils throughout your home. Remember to air the room out regularly.
